Gloucester
The recent Gloucester cyclocross race weekend was incredible! For those of you who haven’t been there, the venue is simply spectacular, located in a park adjacent to the southern Gloucester Bay complete with fleet of yachts under full sail. Picture lines of cross riders in silhouette against that glistening silver background as they flew through the serpentine lower course in a synchronized rhythm of speed. And, that was just for starters. Along with a wonderful venue, Essex County Velo presented a first class weekend of racing, challenging courses, on time race starts, and fun awards ceremonies all reflective of the 20 years of their race promotion experience.
As the weekend progressed I was continually reminded of our dear friend Melissa (a collector whose two daughters Molly and Ella are successful junior racers) who was insistent - and very convincing – last year at the dreary Thompson cyclocross event in persuading us that we should make the effort to “do” Gloucester next year.
Thankfully, we took her advice.
It was a joy to see her to thank her in person.
It is the contact and influence from Melissa and so many of our fellow vendors, our collectors, and our old friends like UCI Commissar Deb Schiff that I feel compelled to resurrect the DUG blog. I feel an immense debt of gratitude for their continued encouragement.
I anticipate writing more about our Gloucester experience in the coming days. It was a weekend of great racing, a beautiful setting, and best of all seeing old friends and meeting new acquaintances. Stay tuned for more.
